Matt Amante is a sculptor and community college professor working in Greenville, North Carolina. He completed his undergraduate studies in Art Education and English at Western Michigan University, and holds a MFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University.
Matt enjoys working with a large variety of materials and approaches sculpture from a variety of angles. He focuses the majority of his time on outdoor sculpture, but enjoys working in a wide range of scales. Matt describes his work as heavily rooted in the Elements and Principles of design, informed by minimalist and formal tendencies, and starting from concepts rooted in Eastern Philosophy.
His work has been featured in over 30 public exhibitions across North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. His sculptures are featured in public collections in Muskegon, Michigan and throughout North Carolina, and is in private collections in Baltimore, Phoenix, Tokyo, and China.
