After a career in graphic design, Brad Hook Aka Cooper has turned his focus to creating ceramics, collage and encaustic paintings. Working from a studio in Ivanhoe Illinois, his encaustic work introduces texture and color with multiple layers of pigment mixed with beeswax applied and removed through a process of creation and destruction that builds the varied surfaces and imperfections. The collage pieces incorporate color, pattern and simple forms created from multi-layer monoprints cut and assembled into new compositions. Working with clay for decades, his current whimsical hand built ceramic pieces are fired then painted to achieve rich patina finishes with a sense of age and wear.
