Court Lurie is a painter, photographer, observer, and creator. The process of creating each work is a dialogue that unfolds in the moment. She is constantly negotiating a balance between trusting the intuitive, gestural impressions that come, or relying on her experience with intentional, calculated placement of color and form.
While painting, her awareness vacillates between intentional and premeditated mark making and spontaneous and intuitive risk taking, delving into the unknown and exploring new ways of creating space. This complex, ongoing conversation transforms into unpredictable, raw meditations on letting go.
Saturation, layers, hues, transparency, content, form, and texture intermingle to create an exchange that comes alive when balance and harmony are achieved in her compositions. The play between geometry and scribble in her works somehow invite the viewer to reflect on their past or daydream about the future.
Court lives and creates in Austin, Texas where she is a lecturer and a leader in the arts community. She has shown her works all over the world and is in several corporate and private collections.
