Melisa Mason, originally from Western Maryland, now calls Florida her home. It is there where she paints with fellow artists in the renovated horse paddock on her farm. Upon entering the place she calls home and studio, you feel a pulsating energy that is ever-present in her work.
Melissa’s art started as a life-long dream but did not come to fruition until she had a life changing moment. That, combined with a private art coach and countless hours of painting, allowed her to develop her style for which she is now known. Melissa’s big gestural movements, with large painting implements and copious amounts of paint, bring her canvases to life. The combination of intellect and intuition inform and guide the art, resulting in strong, powerful paintings with an intriguing surface quality.
Many ask about the equine motif. Melissa says while fond of them, they actually chose her. They have been her guides on her journey in art and in life. Some viewers see the motif, while others just know there is a power on the canvas that pulls them in, before the equine image is pointed out.
